The water tower , built in 1913 and only 11 m high, is located in the center of the village of Remmels . He is considered the symbol of the place and is also shown in the coat of arms. The tower stands a bit inconspicuous at the roadside and, due to its small size, looks more like the model of a larger building.
Building
The cylindrical shaft rises above a circular granite base . It is closed at the top by a circumferential bead with a tooth frieze . The widened head of the tower, supported by consoles, is octagonal. The 20 m³ water tank is located there. Each of the eight side walls has two small, rectangular window openings that are now closed by glass blocks. The roof, which is covered with flat, red shingles, is graduated like a mansard roof : the roof pitch is steeper in the lower part than above.
Building history and use
The water tower was built in 1912 and renovated in 1994. In addition, an anonymous donation of 7,000 DM was received for painting work.
The tower is used to supply the town of Remmels with water , which was organized by the municipality itself. The location in the immediate vicinity of the former station of the Rendsburger Kreisbahn suggests that it was also used to supply the steam locomotives.
Until 1956/57 the small meter gauge railway ran through the town. From 1901 it connected Rendsburg with Hohenwestedt and was continued as far as Schenefeld in 1916 .
