Wissersheim water tower
The Wissersheim water tower is located in the Nörvenich district of Wissersheim in the Düren district, typically on Wasserturmstrasse. It can be seen far across the bordering landscape.
history
The tower was built in 1908/09, from the former waterworks Wissersheim-Rath, which as far as 2,008 house operation was performed the municipality Nörvenich. In 1989 the former water tower was acquired by the sculptor Günter Thelen , who set up his apartment and studio there. The machine house was sold to a private individual. The water tower is not a listed building. It was in operation until 1952.
After the groundwater had already been lowered very early by the nearby open- cast lignite mine to such an extent that extraction was impossible, Rheinbraun supplied so-called "replacement water" from the waterworks in Dirmerzheim . Since January 8, 2012, the drinking water supply has been provided by the water pipeline association of the Neffeltal communities in Vettweiß .
