Wissersheim is located in the municipality of Nörvenich in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Wissersheim is mentioned for the first time in 836 in a deed of donation to Ludwig the Pious . At that time Hruotbert received the Good Wistrikisheim in Duchy Ripuarien , today Wissersheim he soon reach the Prüm Abbey passed on. In the late Middle Ages , the village went to the Münstereifel Abbey , which it owned until the French period. But also Groß St. Martin , St. Gereon and the Antoniter in Cologne , along with other landlords, owned large estates here.

Incorporation

On July 1, 1969, the place was incorporated into the new municipality of Erftstadt . Thus it was the only municipality from the district of Düren that merged into the new city of Erftstadt. On January 1, 1975, he was reclassified to the municipality of Nörvenich.

In the last 40 years, the population of Wissersheim has almost doubled. The " residential park " built at the time on the north-western edge of the town and smaller new development areas are often inhabited by commuters who work in the Cologne- Bonn region.

The Wissersheim water tower is visible from afar . The sculptor Günter Thelen (Cologne / Leverkusen), as the new owner, has redesigned the landmark into a “residential building” with an artist's studio. The water tower was in operation from 1908 to 1952.
