politics

Schmitz is the parliamentary group leader in the Nörvenich municipal council. In her home parish there was no FDP branch, so she first became a party member in Düren and then founded the Nörvenich branch herself.

After three years of membership, Ingola Schmitz ran for the state elections in 2012 in the Aachen district because the previous candidate saw no chance of success. Schmitz was elected to the 16th state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia on May 13, 2012 via the state list. In her constituency Düren I she received 3.63% of the first votes. She was elected spokeswoman for the FDP parliamentary group for culture and vocational education and training. Real schools and comprehensive schools are also part of their focus area.

In spring 2014 she was elected district chairwoman. At an extraordinary district party conference in June 2014, he expressed distrust of her and the board of directors. Critics accused the old board, among other things, of the fact that the submitted reserve list of the FDP had not been allowed in the district election for legal reasons. There was also criticism of Ingola Schmitz's administration.
