The water tower on the Kressenberg , also known as the Balkhausen reservoir , is located on the Kressenberg in Niederwenigern . It has a hexagonal floor plan.

It is a brick-clad reinforced concrete tank in Expressionism style with a height of 24 m. It was built in 1930 and has been a listed building since August 1984. The water chamber has a diameter of 8.74 meters and a capacity of 250,000 liters. It is fed with water from the Essen waterworks and supplies the households in Niederbonsfeld and in part of Niederwenigern with water. The AVU was the operator until 1965 , when Gelsenwasser took over the tower.

The tower is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Hattingen .
