Erik Thommesen

Erik Thommesen (born February 15, 1916 in Copenhagen , Denmark ; † August 22, 2008 ) was a Danish expressionist sculptor who mainly worked with wood. He was affiliated with the artists' association CoBrA .

life and work

Thommesen studied zoology . As a sculptor he was self-taught . His work is influenced by Cubism , African art , Henri Matisse , Pablo Picasso and Aristide Maillol .

From 1944 to 1949 Thommesen was a member of the Danish artist group Høst , later the group CoBrA . In 1951 he founded the Martsudstillingen group with Ejler Bille .
