Water hiking rest area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A water hiker resting place is a jetty for recreational boating .

Rest areas for water hikers are public facilities that are geared towards the needs of the tourist boating industry. In contrast to a marina or a club harbor , the number of berths and the length of stay are limited.

Inconsistent definition

The term Wasserwanderrastplatz is currently still used in different ways: as a resting place for canoe hikers , as a berth for motorboats on inland waters and also as a berth for sailing boats on the German Baltic coast . This means that users cannot see at first glance which facilities they can expect at the location. For this reason, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has developed uniform definitions as part of a marketing initiative and published them in its practical guide for water tourism companies, municipalities and associations :

“A water hiking rest area (WWR) is characterized by an exclusively tourist orientation with a smaller number of berths and a location on an inland waterway. As the name suggests, it is aimed at water hikers and has a function for them as a place to take a break, rest or short-term overnight stay. The length of stay is limited, so that permanent residents cannot use it there. The waterside infrastructure is primarily designed for motorized sports boats. Use by canoeists is generally possible, but not mandatory. As a rule, a water hikers' resting place does not offer any major land-based infrastructure, but at least sanitary facilities and electricity and water supply. The operation is possible both publicly and privately. The number of berths should be within a manageable range. "
