The Westhoven waterworks is a historic waterworks in Cologne-Westhoven .

In order to improve the drinking water supply in the Porz area, the Rheinische Wasserwerke-Gesellschaft had the waterworks built on Porzer Ringstrasse in 1903–1904. Impurities, as happened in the Mülheim waterworks in 1893 and 1901, should be excluded due to the better location. At that time, towns were at least two kilometers and the Rhine one kilometer from the location.

It is a solid factory building with romanized elements, with large windows in the facades, stone gable crowns and a magnificent, brick-integrated plaster facade.

An associated half-timbered house served the employees as living quarters, which was only restored in a simplified form after the Second World War .

The conversion to large activated carbon filters at the end of the 1980s required a structural change. The plan of an adapted extension was abandoned in favor of a light hall construction made of steel and glass. At the same time, an educational water trail was laid out on the site.

The building has been a listed building since November 10, 1995.

Initially the supply area was the municipality of Porz, today it is northern parts of the city, as Porz is served by the Zündorf and Leidenhausen waterworks. The raw water from the deep wells is mixed with 10% bank filtrate from the Rhine . The conveying capacity increased from initially 600 m³ / hour to 1990 to 3500 m³ / hour. Today's operator is RheinEnergie .
