Vasily Sakharovich Vlasov

Vasily Vlasov Sacharowitsch , Russian Василий Захарович Власов , English transcription Vasily Vlasov Zakharovich, (born February 11 . Jul / 24. February  1906 greg. In Karejewo in Tarusa , Russian Empire ; † 7. August 1958 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Russian and Soviet civil engineer.

Vlasov studied at the Moscow Civil Engineering University with the degree in 1930. Soon after, he was also giving lectures there. He was also at the Research Institute for Industrial Construction from 1932 to 1946 and taught at the Engineering Academy of the Soviet Military from 1932 to 1942. In 1937 he completed his habilitation (Russian doctorate) and became a professor. In 1956 he was the successor of Isaak Moissejewitsch Rabinowitsch on the chair of the Moscow civil engineering college

In 1953 he became a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences . In 1941 he received the Stalin Prize, 1st class.

He dealt with structural mechanics, elasticity theory and strength theory and developed a consistent theory of elastic rod shells (1940).
