Wastes is a funeral doom project founded in 2015 .

history

Laurent Chaulet from Mourning Dawn founded Wastes in July 2015, according to the episode “after a long night full of whiskey and acid .” The musicians are not named by name, but only with initials. The label, however, refers to the musicians David "Nemri" from Sordide , Kostas Panagiotou from Pantheist , Nadine Lehtinen from Ashtar and Frédéric Patte-Brasseur and Julien Payan from Ataraxie . The debut album The Void of Human Vacuity was composed as a 45-minute piece. The label Aural Music retained the subdivisions of the raw data and added pauses in the subdivisions. The Void of Human Vacuity was released in 2017 as a download via Aural Music and as a CD via the subcontractor Code666 Records .

The album received positive reviews for international webzines such as Vampster , Metal.de , Invisible Orange and Metal Injection . The album was praised as a "successful Funeral Doom Metal disc" and "a disturbing, slow Funeral Doom album with a very own note and a certain affinity for Black Metal ". The few critics argued against the positive voices that the album was characterized by “monotonous singing”, “uninteresting melodies” and too long a running time.

style

The music played by Wastes is attributed to Funeral Doom. According to the label, “dirt, scraps and everything that has to do with dirt” are the central inspiration and the aim of the band is to create “music that is as dark and painful as possible”. The effect of the music influenced by Black Metal is oppressive and melancholy.

The guitar playing is perceived as an "essential element" of the music and described as "endless repetition of (good) riffs with light to strong influences from Black Metal". Likewise, the guttural vocals are borrowed from Black Metal and thus offer an “additional impact” as it stands out from the growling that is common in the genre .
