The Wat Thai temple in Munich district Ramersdorf is a Buddhist community center of Thai immigrants in and around Munich; it has been located in Bad Dürkheimer Str. 14 since 1998 . Of the around 2000 Thai people who live in the catchment area, around 600 are members of Munich's Wat Thai. The abbot of the community is the chief monk Phrakhrupalad Chon Chaiamnat (Phrakhruvitejthammarangsi). The task of the association that carries the Wat ( Wat-Thai Deutsch-Thai Buddhist Association in Germany eV ) is to create a spiritual and cultural center for the cultivation of the Buddhist religion and Thai customs. Originally looked after by the community in Ingolstadt , the Munich-based Thais rented a building in Allach from 1994 . With the help of many supporters, it was possible in 1998 to accommodate the current wat in a building that was acquired in 1991. The association feels connected to the Buddhist school tradition of Theravada .
