Wat Ang Thong

The Wat Ang Thong Woraviharn ( Thai วัด อ่างทอง วรวิหาร ) is a Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) in Ang Thong , Ang Thong Province in central Thailand . Wat Ang Thong is a third class royal temple .

Wat Ang Thong is within walking distance of the district building of the Amphoe Mueang Ang Thong .

Building history

Wat Ang Thong dates from the Bangkok era under King Mongkut (Rama IV.) And originally consisted of the two separate temples Wat Pho Ngoen and Wat Pho Thong. When King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) noticed the two small temples on his boat trip from Bangkok to Phitsanulok in 1890 , he ordered the amalgamation to improve them and named the new temple Wat Ang Thong.

In 1902 an ubosot with a single-step roof was built.

Attractions

The pretty ubosot was rebuilt in 1956/57 and replaced the old one. The new ubosot has a total of five rooms and has a portico at the entrance and at the rear of the building. The hall has a two-tier roof with fork ends.

The kuti , the demarcated apartments of the monks, also date from the Bangkok period and are made of teak .
