Wat Mae Chon
Wat Mae Chon ( Thai วัด แม่ โจน ) is the name of the ruin of a former Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) on the northern edge of the historic old town of Sukhothai in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sukhothai Historical Park in Thailand .
location
The wat is located about 100 meters north-northwest of the northern city gate of Old Sukhothai and about 50 meters east of the southeast corner of the moat surrounding Wat Phra Phai Luang . In modern traffic topography, it is located immediately to the west of road 1113 leading north towards Si Satchanalai , which, in parts of its route, connects the ancient " Thanon Phra Ruang " ( Thaiถนน พระร่วง , connecting the two royal cities with each other and further south with Kamphaeng Phet) English Phra Ruang Road ).
description
The rectangular, brick foundation of a meeting hall ( Wihan ) with dimensions of 7.50 m × 11.45 m has been preserved. The foundation can be entered via a staircase in the east. At the western end there is a pedestal that carries the fully restored, east-facing statue of a seated Buddha with the gesture of submission to the demon Mara . Immediately west of the Wihan is the base of a main chedi , which is surrounded by three subordinate chedis. In the north-west, the ensemble is bounded by a depression marked with slate plates averaging one meter wide and surrounded in its entirety by a low brick wall with an entrance on the east side.
