location

Wat Phra Si Iriyabot is located about a hundred meters north of Wat Phra Non , the temple of the reclining Buddha, in a forest area north of the old town of Kamphaeng Phet, which is called Aranyik.

Building history

Attractions

Buddha statue in the viharn

The following attractions are located in the area of Wat Phra Si Iriyabot.

The first building after entering the temple complex is a viharn (prayer hall) on a broad foundation, which was designed as a place for ritual processions. Behind the viharn there is a mondop with a square floor plan and portals on each side; it is also the main building of the temple. Four portals in each corner of the Mondop served as storage places for Buddha statues , which were available in four different forms: walking, sitting, lying and standing. Today only the standing figure is left in the southern corner. It probably dates from the Sukothai period, using typical local forms of the Kamphaeng Phet school.

Two smaller Mondops, of which the one in the southeast corner is quite well preserved, follow. This Mondop shows influences of the Burmese temple architecture.
