Wat Phra Non
The Wat Phra Non ( Thai วัด พระ นอน , "Temple of the Reclining Buddha") is a Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) in Kamphaeng Phet , Kamphaeng Phet Province . The Kamphaeng Phet Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .
location
Wat Phra Non is located north of the old town of Kamphaeng Phet in the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park outside the city walls in the area called Aranyik (forest district). The temple area is divided into two areas: (1) the Buddhavasa, i.e. the area within an enclosure ( Kampheng Kaeo ) with the Buddha statues and buildings in which rites were held, and (2) the Sanghavasa, the living area for the monks in the north and west outside the enclosure.
Building history
Most of the buildings of Wat Phra Non are made of laterite . In front of the temple there is a wall, a washroom and a shelter. After entering the temple, one stands on the foundation of the Ubosot (the ordination hall) with its octagonal pillars.
Attractions
The following attractions are located in the area of Wat Phra Non:
- Opposite the ubosot is a viharn (prayer hall) that kept the central Buddha statue of the temple. Each column of this viharn was made from a single piece of laterite, on the upper edge of which there are structures to accommodate beams made of precious wood. The pillars are enormous: each of the eight edges measures 1.1 meters with a total height of 6.4 meters. This indicates that the roof was made of fine wood (presumably teak ). The laterite wall of the viharn was laid out in the form of a balustrade .
- Behind the viharn is a bell-shaped chedi , the most important of the temple. To the west of the chedi are the remains of a reclining Buddha.
