Wat Somanat Wihan (full name: Wat Somanat Ratcha Wora Wihan - Thai : วัด โสมนัส ราชวรวิหาร ) is a Buddhist temple ( wat ) in Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . It is a Royal Second Class Temple .

location

Wat Somanat Viharn is located in the north of the Pom Prap Sattru Phai district . It is located on Thanon Krung Kasem (Street of Urban Happiness) directly on the banks of the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem .

history

Wat Somanat was founded by King Mongkut (Rama IV) . He dedicated the temple to his wife Somdet Phra Nang Chao Somanat Wathanawadi ( สมเด็จ พระนางเจ้า โสมนัส วัฒนา วดี ), who had died at the beginning of his reign. The foundation stone was laid by the king on Monday, January 15, 1853.

Arrangement of the plant

The main buildings of the temple are oriented from south-west to north-east. The Phra Ubosot is located in the southwestern part of Phutthawat ( เข ถ พุทธาวาส ), the sacred area that is dedicated to the Buddha. It is bordered with a low wall. To the northeast is the Phra Chedi, which is enclosed by an inwardly open gallery ( Phra Rabiang ) . The northeastern part of the Phra Rabiang is occupied by the Phra Wihan Yai , the Great Assembly Hall.
