Building history

The temple complex was built in 1867 at the end of the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV) by the Tai Yai merchant Mung in the Tai Yai Mahayan style (Yunnan). The front of the main building is decorated with fine stucco work and wood carvings , the shiny columns show gilded patterns and jade work .

Attractions

Here is a very beautiful Buddha statue called Phra Phuttha Maha Muni. It measures about two meters by two meters in the base and is executed in the style of Mandalay . Today it is used by the Tai Yai as a place of worship as long as they cannot visit Burma without problems. The seated figure is in a building erected in 1977, the Phra Phuttha Wiharn Maha Muni, which looks like a Burmese palace. The building has a seven-tiered roof, the top of which forms a royal umbrella.

The courtyard behind the building houses a resting Buddha, a Burmese-style statue about 30 meters long. A gallery with 28 seated Buddha figures can also be seen.

In the middle of the temple complex is the Phra Chedi Gonwin (Korawiri), which is also an important place of worship and is built in the Mon style.
