WaterAid

WaterAid [ ˈwɒːtəɹeɪd ] is an international not-for-profit organization that campaigns worldwide for the supply of clean drinking water and appropriate sanitary facilities as a first measure against poverty . WaterAid was founded on July 21, 1981 by companies and employees in the water sector in Great Britain . The company's headquarters are in London .

WaterAid is currently active in 27 countries in Africa , Asia and Oceania in order to improve the local water supply and sanitary situation on a sustainable basis . In addition, the organization calls on governments to promote the supply of clean drinking water and the construction of sanitary facilities in their programs to reduce poverty in particular ( lobbying ).

Finances

In fiscal 2006/07, the organization recorded donations of £ 31 million with a goal of reaching £ 35 million by 2010.

history

1981 British water industry unite at the Thirsty Third World Conference On July 21, 1981, WaterAid was founded in Great Britain. The first projects were started in Zambia and Sri Lanka . Between 1985 and 1988 ten countries worked together with WatherAid. This could help around 350,000 people.

WaterAid was able to start its 1000th project as early as 1993. In 1993 a further 50,000 people could be cared for, in Ethiopia alone. In 1994, WaterAid published the first advocacy report on upcoming health crises in slums. By 1999 six million people had been helped.

From 2003 to 2004 WaterAid works in 15 countries. In 2009 WaterAid Sweden was founded. In total, 13.4 million people were provided with clean water and 8.1 million with decent toilets.

In 2010 WaterAid International was founded to work together effectively and efficiently with members and programs of the WaterAid Association. WaterAid Japan was founded in 2013. WaterAid India joins WaterAid in 2016.
