Waterloo Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Waterloo Day (Day of Waterloo) is the 18th June .

Waterloo Day is a day of remembrance to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo , where Wellington and Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher won the victory over Napoleon . It has a similar status for the British Army as Trafalgar Day has for the Royal Navy .

On this day, a replica of the captured French flag is traditionally given to the British monarch and then hung over a bust of Wellington in Windsor Castle . The colors of Wellington (blue and yellow) then adorn the Waterloo room of Windsor Castle during a private party, which usually takes place in the evening.
