Watership Down (hill)

Watership Down refers to several hills or the slopes of these hills in Hampshire , England .

The location became world famous as the setting for Richard Adams' novel " Down by the River " . The author, who had spent part of his youth in the Watership Down area, had a group of homeless rabbits go on an epic adventure in the area. The place soon became famous thanks to the book published in 1972 , the original English name is Watership Down .

Watership Down is a popular destination for nature lovers and cyclists. The touristic development is limited, however, since one of the main themes of Adams' novel is the destruction of nature by humans. In addition, most of the Downs is privately owned; The main owner is the musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber .
