wawa aba is the name of the official match ball for the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana .

properties

The wawa aba was the first soccer ball that adidas manufactured and sold specifically for the Africa Cup of Nations . Its properties are similar to those of the Europass , which was used at the 2008 European Football Championship . Its structure is also reminiscent of the + team spirit , the official match ball for the 2006 World Cup in Germany .

In terms of color, it is held in red, yellow, green and black, the national colors of Ghana , and therefore visually differs greatly from the classic color scheme with white as the basic tone. The name translates as "seeds of the abachi tree " and stands for strength and flexibility. The ball has a “goose bumps” -like surface to improve flight characteristics and controllability.

The ball consists of an orange plastic bubble that is sewn into scraps of fabric and covered with rubber . The shape and arrangement of the panels was chosen as with the + Teamgeist and serves to better round the ball.

As with the Europass, the ball uses the polymer material PCS-Texture , which covers the surface. The wawa aba weighs between 441 and 444 grams and increases its weight by up to 4.5% even in heavy rain, thus complying with the FIFA standard of a maximum of 10%.
