webERP is a web-based ERP system that is available under the free GPL license .

The software project was founded in 2001 and is one of the few free ERP systems. It was published in early 2003 and has been actively developed since then.

The system is designed for the US market but is fully customizable. There are (as of 2013) 26 different localizations for the user interface , for example a German, French or Italian. Country-specific specifications such as accounts , currencies and units can be configured via the web interface. Comprehensive English documentation for operation and program expansion is available.

Operation is menu-driven . The menus are designed as hyperlink lists, as JavaScript is used very sparingly and techniques such as Ajax are avoided entirely. This increases the compatibility with different platforms (e.g. mobile systems), even if the more comfortable operation can suffer.

The individual modules, which are subdivided into the three areas of processes, evaluations and data maintenance, can be reached via the main menu. In contrast to other products, elements are not selected via a list box ; each element is implemented as a button in a list. The search function in the modules does not offer the output of all data records, but you have to explicitly enter a search term.

The second menu above the main menu is unusual, providing quick access to customers , articles and suppliers . A search is offered there, via which a complete output of the respective data records can be made. In addition, you have access to corresponding, advanced program functions, comparable to a context menu . This quick access menu is linked to the important functions in the modules, so that you can, for example, select a supplier in the supplier search in order to enter a goods receipt for an order from this menu.

Publication under the GPL enables commercial, license-free use. Since it is a web application , the software can either be tested directly on the webERP homepage or with its own installation on the intranet or at a provider .

The product is not marketed commercially and its scope is more suitable for small businesses. Despite several years of existence and over 700 downloads per month, the project is rather unknown in Europe. Projects based on webERP can be found on Sourceforge .

webERP requires PHP , a web server and a database. Usually, GNU / Linux is used with Apache and MySQL , other constellations are possible.
