The Weddell Islands are a group of small islands in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . They are 1.5 km south of Saddle Island and 7.5 km off the western end of Laurie Island .

The first sighting probably goes back to the British sealer captain George Powell and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer in December 1821. The name of the archipelago is recorded for the first time on a map of the British navigator James Weddell (1787-1834), who visited the South Orkney Islands in 1823 and is also the namesake.
