Fakhri Sheikh El-Ard

Fakhri El-Ard ( Arabic فخري شيخ الأرض, DMG Faḫrī Shaiḫ al-Arḍ ; * 20th April 1920 in Syria ) is a Saudi diplomat in retirement .

Career

With his twin brother Medhat Sheikh el-Ard he belonged to the entourage of Saud ibn Abd al-Aziz on May 12, 1937 for the coronation of George VI. (United Kingdom) . He was a delegation counselor in Paris. From May 26, 1951 to November 8, 1956, he was Ministre plénipotentiaire in Jakarta . From November 8, 1956 to May 26, 1961, he was envoy in Bern . From 1963 to 1967 he was ambassador to Vienna . From 1968 to 1975 he was ambassador in Rabat . On July 9, 1971, on the occasion of Skhirat's attempted coup by Mohamed Medbouh and Colonel M'hamed Ababou at a diplomatic reception on the 42nd birthday of Hassan II , a cadet fired a submachine gun salvo at head height on a group with raised hands. In this group was Fakhri Sheikh El-Ard, whose raised arms were injured because of his short stature. He was believed dead and was spared further injuries.
