The Wedge Tomb of Ballinphunta is located in the townland of Ballinphunta ( Irish Baile an Mhóta ) in the Craughaun cemetery in Cratloe, near Sixmilebridge, east of the Owenagarny River a few kilometers from the center of Limerick , but already in County Clare , Ireland . Wedge Tombs ( German  "wedge tombs" ), formerly "wedge-shaped gallery grave" called, are double-walled, seamless, mostly unarticulated megalithic of the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age .

The Wedge Tomb lies in a round, slightly raised border made of dry masonry and is the reconstruction of a system typical of the genus was described in 1902 (posthumously) by William Copeland Borlase (1848–1899). The stones, especially the only capstone of around 2.8 mx 2.3 m, are particularly large. Essentially, the inner structure, consisting of seven bearing stones and the capstone, has been preserved. The second capstone is missing. The double wedge shape (width and height) of the silhouette is clearly recognizable.
