The Wedge Tomb of Knocknagoun is located on a southeast slope of Knocknagoun Mountain overlooking the basin of the Dripsey or Muddy River, in the townland of Knocknagoun ( Irish Cnoc na nGabhann , "hill of the forge") north of the village of Rylane and north of Macroom in County Cork in Ireland . Wedge Tombs ( German  "Keilgräber" ), formerly also called "wedge-shaped gallery grave", are aisle-less, mostly undivided megalithic complexes from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age and, in addition to court , portal and passage tombs, are typical of the western half of Ireland.

description

The low grave has an approximately 210 cm long gallery, closed at the east end, which is covered by two capstones. The larger one is about two feet long and overlaps the smaller one. They rest on 6 supporting stones and the end stone. Outside there are still some references to the former cairn , which completely covered it until the end of the 19th century. There were several attempts to destroy the tomb.
