Wedge Tomb by Moylisha
The wedge tomb of Moylisha (also Labbanasighe ( Irish Leaba na Saidhe ) or "Bed of the Fairies" ( German "Feenbett" ) called) is located in the townland of Moylisha ( Maoilise ) near Shillelagh, in the extreme southwest of County Wicklow in Ireland . Wedge Tombs ( German "Keilgräber" ), formerly also called "wedge-shaped gallery grave", are megalithic systems of the late Neolithic and the early Bronze Age (2500–2000 BC) and typical of the western half of Ireland.
description
The Wedge Tomb is located in a cairn that was originally about 1.5 meters high and 42 meters long. It consists of a short antechamber and, separated by a plate, a longer trapezoidal main chamber, which, unlike the usual design, widens towards the end. The U-shaped stone setting has been preserved around the approximately 7.5 m long chamber. A single capstone lies in the chamber.
During the excavation in 1937, bones, shards of rough pottery, and two halves of a sandstone mold for a bronze spearhead were found at the base of the cairn on the east side. It is an Irish national monument .
