Weekend Edition is the weekend counterpart to the weekday morning program Morning Edition of the public radio station National Public Radio (NPR) in the United States of America. The two-hour broadcast is produced live from 8:00 am to 10:00 am ( east coast time ) and then repeated as a continuous loop ("feed") until 2:00 pm ( east coast time ). Compared to Morning Edition , Weekend Edition is more focused on entertainment. The broadcast therefore offers more space for cultural reporting.

format

In contrast to the five segments of Morning Edition, Weekend Edition only consists of three segments. In addition, there is only one news program at the start of the broadcast hour and no news at half an hour. This less strict structure offers more space for longer reports.

The broadcast hour begins with a 60-second preview (“billboard”) of the content of the program, followed by the news.

The A segment begins at 6:30 minutes past the start of the hour. It contains reports on current topics and lasts 11:30 minutes. The segment ends with a window for the partner stations 19 minutes after. On Saturdays, a comment from moderator Scott Simon will be broadcast in this segment under the heading Simon Says .

The B segment starts at 20 minutes past and lasts 14 minutes. This is followed by a three-minute time window in which the partner stations can send their own content. However, a main program is also produced for the period that stations can take over that do not want to send their own program. This is followed by a regular two-minute station break. There is thus the possibility for the partner stations to send a five-minute block with their own program.

The C-segment starts at minute 40 and usually has a cultural focus with reports and interviews on all aspects of drama , film and music . On Sundays, the puzzle with New York Times puzzle editor Will Schorz is broadcast in this segment .
