The Wehrle-Werk AG is one in 1860 in Emmendingen based companies in the energy and environmental technology with its own large components.

history

In 1860 the company was founded by Wilhelm Wehrle as the "Mechanische Werkstätte und Kesselschmiede Wilhelm Wehrle" in Emmendingen . Initially, he dealt with fittings and hinges. From 1862 Wehrle was engaged in the construction of brewery facilities and grew due to high demand.

In 1887 the business went into the second generation, to Otto Wehrle, the son of the company founder. From 1890, high-pressure water-tube boilers were also manufactured in addition to low-pressure steam boilers. The company gained international reputation in the brewery sector. Brewery equipment was delivered and built worldwide, e.g. B. to the Germania brewery founded in Kiautschou in 1903 (today: Tsingtao brewery ).

With the electrification of Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, the company got into equipment for large power plants , initially with the construction of condensers, and later with air and gas preheaters.

In 1920 Otto Wehrle transferred the company to Wehrle-Werk AG, thus dividing the property from his person to his family and descendants.

In 1950 the planning and construction of high-pressure steam boiler systems for industry began, and from 1975 also for waste incineration plants . With sewage sludge drying plants from 1989, the Wehrle plant gained additional markets.

With high-performance membrane bioreactors (MBR) for the treatment of landfill leachate and industrial wastewater, the field of treatment of complex wastewater opened up. The commissioning of the first large-scale MBRs in 1992 was followed by further innovations, such as the first large-scale nanofiltration (NF) in 1996.

After 10 years of research and testing, the treatment of waste and waste water led to the commissioning of the first large-scale mechanical-biological waste treatment plant in the Zweckverband Abfallverarbeitung Kahlenberg (ZAK) Ringsheim according to the Maximum Yield Technology (MYT) process in 2006. Here up to 120,000 t of mixed domestic waste are processed into substitute fuel and biogas every year .

In the years that followed, the Wehrle plant expanded its position as a component and plant manufacturer for the treatment of special waste and complex wastewater through cooperation and innovations.

The company is still fully family-owned in the 5th and 6th generation of the founding family. Wehrle-Werk AG is managed by Heiner Steinberg from the 6th generation.

activities

Today the company is divided into three business areas: energy technology, environmental technology and manufacturing.

The Energy Technology division builds complete systems for the thermal utilization of sewage sludge, industrial waste and other hazardous waste in the range of 1 to 10 MWth, as well as a component supplier, especially for the core components of the furnace ( fluidized bed or grate furnace ) and for high-pressure water tube boilers . In addition, the project planning, renovation, revision and optimization of existing boilers takes place.

The environmental technology division also operates under the name Wehrle Umwelt GmbH. Wehrle Umwelt plans, builds and operates plants for the treatment of complex wastewater, for example landfill leachate, industrial wastewater from the pharmaceutical industry, the chemical and petrochemical industry or refineries from the food and beverage production. Complete wastewater management systems are offered for industrial companies, including water recycling with complete closed-loop control (zero liquid discharge) and systems for recovering valuable substances. Wehrle Umwelt systems can be found in over forty countries around the world.

The Production division specializes in boiler construction, but also offers large parts production for third-party customers. The service portfolio includes various drilling and milling work, turning, surface treatment and welded constructions up to 40 tons in weight. In addition to contract manufacturing, services are also offered, from construction planning with material procurement to dimensional accuracy checks on site, to welder training and welder tests.

structure

The company has subsidiaries in Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

All shares in Wehrle-Werk AG are owned by the founding family.
