history

It was completed in 1971 on the site of a former allotment garden colony . The facility consists of 18 buildings with 3 to 12 floors and approx. 300 residential units of various sizes (39 to 142 square meters). The buildings are clad with white panels, which is why the facility got its name.

Viewed from above, large parts of the buildings surround an inner courtyard (the Gertrudenhof), in which there is a kindergarten and a playground. Other buildings form a wing that branches off to the south. Almost all buildings are connected to form rows of houses. An exception is a block of two buildings in the inner part of the complex, which is not connected to the other 16 buildings.

location

To the north, the residential complex is bounded by the Probst-Hellmich-Promenade, behind which the Wattenscheid shopping street is a short distance away . In the east, the border is defined by Saarlandstrasse, behind which the Märkische Schule and the town hall are located. The southern border is determined by a cemetery. In the west there is a meadow under which Aquella mineral water pumps are located.
