The bald parrot ( Pionus senilis ) is a bird art from the kind of pionus ( Pionus ). It is also known as the bald-headed parrot or bald-headed parrot for short .
features
The white-headed parrot reaches a size of 24 centimeters. The plumage is green, with a pale and more yellowish underside. The feathers on the forehead are white, isolated white feathers are also on the throat and cheeks. The head plumage is green with broad blue borders, the ear covers are dark blue. The breast plumage is olive brown with purple-blue seams, further down the belly it gradually turns green. The underside of the tail feathers is red with yellow-green edges and blue tips. The hand swing covers and the hand swing are blue-violet, the feathers on the inside have a green tip. The under wing-coverts are bluish-green. The lateral tail feathers are blue with a red dot at the beginning. The beak of this parrot species is greenish-yellow with gray markings in the middle of the beak. distribution
The white-headed parrot lives in the tropical rainforests, on forest edges and in clearings with a few large trees. Its distribution area extends from southeastern Mexico to western Panama .
Way of life
The white-headed parrot lives mainly in the lowlands. There he roams around in small groups, but can also be found at heights of up to 1500 meters. Like the closely related black-eared parrot , which partly lives in the same range, it is quite adaptable to environmental changes. The small flocks of white-headed parrots combine to form larger flocks of up to 100 or more birds if there is enough food. The parrots live exclusively in trees and behave very quietly so that they are barely noticeable. They are fast fliers and show an undulating flight movement.

The white-headed parrot is common in all parts of its range, in Costa Rica it has become a cultural follower in some places . In West Nicaragua , populations may have declined slightly due to habitat degradation. White-headed parrots sometimes live in protected areas in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
