Willow moors

As Weidemolen (dt. Weidenmühle) is called in Dutch small windmills that only a few meters high and to drain the polders were used. Like the spider mills and flutter mills, they were owned by farmers.

In terms of structure, it is a special form of the coker windmill . It is characteristic that the mill axis ("house tree") consists of two parts that are connected to each other by a coupling. The lower part of the axle has to be replaced regularly because it is partially in the water, which is why the axle was divided so that it does not always have to be completely replaced.

A willow mill needs almost no operation, because its large wind vane on the back of the rotatable head ensures that it directs itself into the favorable wind. The wind vane is to the left of the center. This prevents the wind direction tracking from only happening to the right.

Willow mills are mainly found in the Dutch provinces of Noord- and Zuid-Holland , in Gelderland only individual specimens can be seen.

A centrifugal pump is used at the Weidemolen to raise the water .
