Wine trade agreement

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The respective wine agreements are bilateral agreements between the European Union and another country (for example: the USA or Australia ). The agreements regulate the mutual recognition of manufacturing standards in wine production. The agreements, especially the one with the USA , are intended to facilitate trade.

Winemakers from the EU, especially from Germany, criticize the fact that the agreement does not provide for a labeling requirement for the production process of the wine . They fear that EU markets will be flooded with cheaply produced artificial wines .

The United States is the largest export market for European wine and the second most important market for German wine exports. The EU's wine exports to the US are about five times the volume of US wine exports to the EU.

An agreement on wine trade has been negotiated between the EU and the USA since 1983.
