Facade view of the Weinstadl

The Weinstadl at Burgstrasse 5 is one of the oldest still preserved houses in Munich . The building is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.

The Gothic town house, built in 1525, was converted into the town clerk's house by the town mason Hans Aerenhofer the Elder from 1551 to 1552 . Remnants of the Laubenhof and the stair tower, which originally belonged to the municipal Weinstadl on Dienerstraße, have been preserved. Hans Mielich painted the facade in 1552. From 1552 to 1612 the town registry was housed in the building .

The building was badly damaged in the Second World War in 1944 and repaired by Siegfried Schmelcher in 1951 . From 1962 to 1963 the facade painting was restored. From 1990 to 1991 the interior was reconstructed again.

Inside is the last Gothic stair tower with a snail in Munich.
