Weird War Tales

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weird War Tales was the title of a comic book series that the American publisher DC Comics published between September 1971 and June 1983. In 1997 the title was revived for a miniseries.

Content

Weird War Tales , which reached 124 issues, specialized in war stories with particularly "bizarre" or "strange" content. Accordingly, in addition to the typical elements of war comics, the stories also often contained mystery, horror and science fiction elements. The recurring series that included the Weird War Tales included Creature Commandos , GI Robot, and The War That Time Forgot , a feature that was featured in the Star Spangled Comics series . The character Death , the personified Death dressed in changing uniforms, always leads through the booklet in a framework.

Release history

After the requirements of the comics code were relaxed so that stories with monsters and undead were allowed, DC Comics started the title Weird War Tales in 1971 to fill this niche in the market. The title arose from the experience of editors Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando that the title suffix “weird” sells well. At the same time, they created the Weird Western Tales series . From September 1971 until the end of the title in June 1983 124 issues were published.

In 1997, Vertigo , an imprint of DC Comics that produces adult-oriented comics, released a four-part new Weird War Tales series. In 2000 a special followed in a booklet. Several volumes with a collection of selected stories from the series were published later:
