The Millionaire (working title Geld ins Haus ) is a German feature film from 1944/45 with Hans Moser in the leading role.

action

Leopold Habernal is a little postman with his heart in the right place. Out of the blue he gets money: a former lover left him her fortune. Habernal wants to keep everything a secret, but everything comes to light at a celebration to mark his twenty-five year professional anniversary. The honest postman becomes a sought-after man overnight: first his landlady makes advances for him, then Anni Schober woos him openly, whereupon the hairdresser Führinger, who is madly in love with Anni, becomes angry with his old friend Habernal. Marianne Krüger, the niece of the late lover, is said to be married by her father to the disgusting wagon owner Draxler, to whom he is heavily in debt, although she loves the penniless composer Franz Lichtenegger. He, in turn, is in a dispute with his wealthy uncle, the Lichtenegger chancellery, because he finds Franz's compositions offensive to the family honor of the Lichteneggers. Envy and resentment meet the postman everywhere.

Habernal helps them all with his money: the barber Führinger can take over the business from his boss and marry Anni; Krüger can repay his debts to Draxler, whereupon Marianne gets her Franz; Habernal in turn extends the travel money to Vienna, where he is allowed to play his symphony. Ultimately, the landlady also gets her share, namely Habernal herself.

background

Although the film was shot from November 1944 to January 1945, it was not premiered until January 17, 1947.
