Erna Fentsch , also Ernestine Wery and Erna Wery-Fentsch (born April 21, 1909 in Munich as Ernestine Fentsch ; † November 26, 1997 ) was a German actress and screenwriter and novelist.

Life

Ernestine Fentsch attended school at the Institut der Englischen Fräulein and took acting classes against her parents' wishes. She acted in the theater and received, initially unnamed, small film roles. In the 1930s and 1940s she played mostly resolute young women in productions with the character of Bavarian folk plays.

After marrying the actor Carl Wery , she retired from acting and began writing film scripts in 1943. Even as an author, she often remained connected to the local Bavarian flavor. With a total of 22 scripts, 16 of which were filmed, she made a not insignificant contribution to the character of West German cinema in the 1950s. She wrote screenplays for home movies , historical films , comedies and romantic movies , where she remained little known personally. Her husband Carl Wery played the title roles in The Perjury Farmer and Sebastian Kneipp . Her most important work is the multi-award-winning film drama Love hangs on the gallows .

In later years she moved to writing under the name "Ernestine Wery". She wrote several novels, especially crime novels, some of which are based on her scripts for the crime series Tatort .

She was buried next to her husband in the old Bogenhausen cemetery in Munich. (Grave wall right no.1)
