Weiss is an impact crater in the southwest of the front of the moon between Mare Nubium and Palus Epidemiarum , northeast of the Cichus crater and southeast of Mercator , at the end of the Rupes Mercator .
The crater is very heavily eroded, in the north the wall has almost completely disappeared and the interior is open to the Mare Nubium.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Austrian astronomer Edmund Weiss .
