St. Wendelin Chapel

The St. Wendelin Chapel in Welfringen is part of the Remich-Dalheim Parish Association, the Remich deanery and the East Pastoral Region. The chapel is looked after by the pastoral team of the Remich-Dalheim parish community.

The first chapel in Welfringen was built in 1721. In 1926 it was decided that this chapel would not be repaired because it was in disrepair, but would be torn down completely and that a new chapel would be built. The honorary state architect Jean-Pierre Knepper from Luxembourg was entrusted with drawing up the plans for a new chapel. In the spring of 1928, the old chapel was demolished and the construction of the new chapel began, the foundation stone of which was laid on July 8th. In 1930 the chapel was completed and the inauguration took place on April 21st. The windows of the chapel were donated by the families living in Welfringen and show the pictures of various saints, such as St. Anne, St. Aloysius von Gonzaga and 11 other saints. These windows were manufactured in 1929 in the FA Linster glassworks in Mondorf. In the chapel you will find 5 wooden statues, a statue of Jesus Christ , Mary , St. Donatus, St. Mark and St. Joseph as well as the inscription One is your Master Christ above a round arch . The high altar of the church was made in 1709 by Nic Greeff-Roesdorf from Altwies, an essay was added in 1741 by Nic Greef-Greisch. The high altar was renovated in 2000 by employees of the art studio Juan Morales from Remich and a people's altar was made by the same company. The patron saints of the church are St. Wendelin and St. Mark as the second patron. In front of the church there are 2 statues of St. Theresa von Liseux and the patron saint of the church, St. Wendelin and a wayside cross from the Greeff company from Altwies, which is dated to 1735.

Former elementary school Welfringen

The Welfringen primary school is located next to the chapel and was built before 1721. In the 1990s the school children and teachers were transferred to the new elementary school in Dalheim and the elementary school building in Welfringen was empty. Before 2010, the building was expanded and a kitchen was installed. Where the entrance was previously, a sacristy was created for the chapel and the entrance was moved to the extension. From 2010 to 2011 the building was used as a preschool for a short time. Since 2011 there has been a cultural center in the building that the local associations can use for events and meetings.
