World Autism Day

International World Autism Day is a world day and takes place annually on April 2nd. It was first committed in 2008. It was introduced by the United Nations at the 76th plenary session on December 18, 2007. On World Autism Day 2015, numerous activities took place, including public buildings being illuminated in blue to draw attention to autism. In 2017 the motto of the day was “Break down barriers for autism - break down barriers to participation!” Together with Autism-Europe , the Federal Association of Autism Germany called for general accessibility and the removal of barriers. Since autism is an invisible disability, it is important to listen to those affected and to record their individual experiences with barriers.

Since 2013, the authorities are bodies Neurodiversity movement on the occasion of this day the counter-action Light it up red and the month of April for the acceptance of autism in terms of Neurodiversity supported and since 2018 Going Gold .
