The Invasion (original title The Puppet Masters ) is the title of a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein from 1951 and was first published in Galaxy magazine. The first German translation was published by Gebrüder Weiss in 1957.

The novel was first published with the title Space Mollusks Conquer the Earth and later as The Puppet Players. In 2017 he appeared on Heyne as Die Invasion .

Heinlein describes the struggle of American secret agents against parasitic invaders from space. It is Heinlein's only story in which he wrote about the science fiction subject "extraterrestrial invasions". In Germany it was first published under the title Space mollusks conquer the earth . The American film Puppet Masters, released in 1994, is based on Heinlein's story.

Uwe Nettelbeck classified the novel 1966 for Die Zeit in the science fiction landscape of the time: Finally, there is a third variety of science fiction - the thing-from-space-stories, the horror-tales. They either play in the present and a familiar environment or at best in a near future, which is still foreseeable, and are only of secondary interest in technical phenomena. ...
