Werderturm
The Werderturm ( Polish : Wieża Bramy Ostrowskiej ) is part of the former city wall of Gubin , a town in the Polish part of Lower Lusatia . It is sometimes referred to as the "Ostrower Turm" or "Dicker Turm".
According to tradition, the tower was built around 1530. It was part of the Werder Gate, which no longer exists today, and thus the city wall, the construction of which began in 1523. In the course of the city's expansion, however, the fortification lost its function over time. The walls were torn down and the building materials were used to build houses and bridges. The tower was preserved; In 1659 a clock was installed. The wooden dial is still preserved and is now in the Gubin Museum Chamber.
The tower is seven stories high and reaches a total height of 28.5 meters. The frieze is at a height of 23 meters. The circumference of the tower is 24.8 meters, its internal diameter around 3.7 meters.
It can be viewed at the Gubiner Heimatfreunde association after prior notice . The association is currently working to install a second clock on the south side.
