By 1891 around 50 wooden ships had been built at this shipyard, the largest such as the brig Louis was measured at 230 GRT. The B. Tholen shipyard was located on the main canal, on the corner of what was then the Hoff Canal. Due to the narrow canal, it was not possible to launch larger ships.
