Werner Hase (born October 17, 1937 ) is a German European champion in correspondence chess .

Correspondence chess

Hase started correspondence chess in 1978. A victory in a tournament in the master class entitles him to participate in the preliminary round of the 25th to 29th German championships. At the 25th DM he qualified for the finals, where he finished 9th in 1996.

At the same time, he qualified for participation in the 56th European Championship through several first places in European masterclass tournaments. Here he won the final round in 1999 with 11.5 out of 14 and became European champion.

In the same year he took part in the final of the 10th World Cup. From 2004 he plays with the team from Zugzwang Bocholt in the correspondence chess Bundesliga.

In 1997 the ICCF awarded him the title of International Correspondence Chess Master, and in 2003 he became an Honored International Correspondence Chess Master (SIM). His Elo rating was last 2489 in January 2009. Since then, Hase has not been active on the international stage.

Tournament chess and functionary work

Hase achieved some local successes on the board. Since 1977 he was chairman of the association "Braunschweiger Schachfreunde von 1929 eV" From 1978 to 1984 he was a youth trainer.

Private

Hase runs a clothing store in Braunschweig.
