Werner Heim (biologist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werner Heim (born February 14, 1908 in Mönsheim , † October 2, 1978 in Heilbronn ) was a German biologist, teacher and local researcher. From 1960 to 1977 he was also head of the Historical Museum in Heilbronn, whose transformation into the Heilbronn City Museum in 1979 he initiated, but never experienced.

Life

Heim was born the son of the senior teacher Paul Heim and spent his youth and school days in Heilbronn, where he passed his school-leaving examination in 1927. He graduated in natural sciences in 1934 with the graduation to the Dr. rer. tech. (Doctor of Technical Sciences , rerum technicarium). His dissertation on the throat sacs of the Characinidae and related accessory organs in other teleosts arose from his work in the zoological laboratory of the Technical University of Stuttgart with Max Rauther . From the spring of 1935 he was a study assessor in his home town of Heilbronn. Afterwards Heim became a biology teacher at the Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium Heilbronn . As the district commissioner for nature conservation and landscape management, Heim made a decisive contribution to the creation of protected parts of the landscape in the 1950s.

In 1955, together with city archivist Gerhard Heß and his wife Doris Heim, he founded the local history supplement Schwaben und Franken , which appeared in the daily newspaper Heilbronner Demokratie and published a total of 84 articles in the Heim by 1978. In 1959, Heim became deputy chairman of the Heilbronn Historical Society, and many of his essays appeared in their yearbooks.

On October 1, 1960, Heim took over part-time management of the Historical Museum in Heilbronn as the successor to the late Wilhelm Mattes . Like his predecessor, he also endeavored to close the loopholes that the Second World War had torn in the museum's collections with the air raid on Heilbronn . The focus of his purchases was in the area of city history. In 1964 he had the old town model built by Karl Wiegand , bought models of old Heilbronn, Neckar ship models, porcelain, pewter objects, scales and weights and much more. He intensified the museum's exhibition activities and also used space in the Heilbronn town hall , in the shooting house or in the Harmonie concert and congress center . On July 1, 1977, Heim was retired as museum director; his successor, the art historian Andreas Pfeiffer , appointed on the same day , was the first full-time director of the Heilbronn City Museum . With Pfeiffer, the focus then changed to art, especially sculptures.

Honors

In 1977 Heim received the Golden Mint of the City of Heilbronn. The reason for the award was his commitment to local history . "Knowledge" and "love" for his homeland are ascribed to him, which enabled him to "brighten up" local research. The accommodation of the Heilbronn Historical Museum in the Heilbronner Deutschhof is also attributed to him:

“With his knowledge of the big picture and his love of local details, he significantly shaped the scientific local history of Heilbronn and the Unterland [see above] as the culmination of his work ... the arrival [of the histor. Museum] in the new Deutschhof building ... "In recognition of his work to shed light on the local history of the Heilbronn area" "

The RNZ describes Heim's commitment to a museum that is open to everyone in the region:

“The whole Heilbronn region mourns the loss of a well-deserved sponsor of the Heilbronn Museum… It was mainly thanks to him that his successor… found ideal conditions to present a museum that can be made accessible to all sections of the population. Werner Heim had done the preparatory work for this. That's why Heim was awarded the Golden Mint of the City of Heilbronn by the City of Heilbronn shortly before his death. "
