Werner Keil (musicologist)

Werner Keil (* 1952 in Moers ) is a German musicologist and university professor.

Life

Keil studied mathematics and musicology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , as well as school music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . 1980 to 1982 he taught at both Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt as well as at a grammar school. In 1981 he passed his state examination, in 1982 he received his doctorate with studies on the early piano style by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel .

From 1982 he taught at the University of Hildesheim, where he completed his habilitation with a thesis on ETA Hoffmann as a composer.

From 1997 to 2018 he held a chair for historical musicology at the University of Paderborn and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold ( Musicology Seminar Detmold / Paderborn ).

As a guest he has taught in Göttingen, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester and in the USA.
