Werew
Werw ( Russian Вервь , in Old Russian parlance literally "rope", since the latter was previously used to measure land) was an administrative unit below the Volost in medieval Russia . Among other things, a Werw had to take over the overall guarantee for crimes such as theft and killing of one of its members and to pay the so-called Wira (a fine) for this.
The term was anchored in the Russkaya Pravda , a code of law of ancient Rus with origins in the 10th to 11th centuries. In this there is no longer any evidence of unconditional family relationships between the members of such congregations, which was probably the case originally.
