The West Cape is a cape in the Southland District of the Southland region on the South Island of New Zealand . The cape represents the westernmost point of the South Island.

The West Cape is located around 10 km south of Dusky Sound and around 6 km west-southwest of Lake Fraser on the west coast of Fiordland . The cape is part of the Fiordland National Park s. Directly south of the cape, the Newton River , which is fed by Lake Fraser , flows into the Tasman Sea .
The cape cannot be reached by land.
