West Dorset is a constituency of the British House of Commons in the western county of Dorset . The constituency was created back in 1885 and covers much of Dorchester , Bridport and Sherborne . He sends a representative to parliament.

history

West Dorset is considered a wealthy, conservative constituency, which in its current form has been represented by seven politicians. The constituency was historically represented by James Spicer, among others . Since the British general election in 1997 , Oliver Letwin's constituency has been represented in Parliament. Letwin is a member of the Conservative Party , he was expelled from the Conservative parliamentary group in early September 2019 after voting against Boris Johnson . In the 2019 general election , Letwin did not run, the seat went to Chris Loder .

In April 2013, the constituency had an unemployment rate of just 1.2%, which is significantly lower than the national average of 3.8%.
