Bridport is a place with 12,977 inhabitants (2001) in Dorset , England .

geography

history

The place originally lived from its fishing port and the manufacture of ropes . Today the place is a popular second home and lives from tourism. The brewery Palmer's Brewery (JC & RH Palmer Ltd) is located in Bridport.

The citizens of Bridport founded the Bridport Railway in 1854 and began building a rail link in 1855, which was completed in 1857. The line was then operated by the Great Western Railway , which in 1884 extended the line to West Bay. The connection to the railway decreased the importance of the port and led to the fact that the community was transformed into a seaside resort. The West Bay section was closed in 1930, and Bridport station closed in 1975.
